Aromasin, the active substance exemestane, is an aromatase inhibitor (AI) used by bodybuilders to combat the side effects caused by strong estrogenic activity, the most important of which is gynecomastia “male breast development”.

These side effects are a common problem with anabolic steroid use and should be avoided for obvious reasons. Exemestane is classified as a last generation antiestrogen, defined as a suicide inhibitor that binds to the aromatase enzyme, rendering it inactive, a process that does not cause an estrogen rebound at the end of its action as occurs with other antiaromatase drugs.

Many bodybuilders and advanced athletes use exemestane to counteract the side effects of estrogen when it reaches very high levels, which include fat storage and water retention.

History

Exemestane is one of the most effective aromatase inhibitors currently available. The most cited study reported about an 85% reduction in estrogen levels. It was developed by Pharmacia & Upjohn, who received marketing authorization in late 1999. It was introduced in accordance with the name “Aromasin” appeared in early 2000. Although the drug has been effective at doses of 2.5 mg per day in some patients, the company has developed an effective standard dose of 25 mg per tablet.

Although not as potent as letrozole (up to 98% inhibition), exemestane is significantly stronger than anastrozole (up to 70% inhibition).
It is possible to use Aromasin on the same day you start a steroid cycle where you need to counter strong aromatization.

The benefits of taking the drug

Other aspects of exemestane activity of interest to the bodybuilder are the ability to increase free testosterone (by binding to SHBG) and IGF-1 (insulin growth factor). For this reason, this drug is also very useful during PCT (Post Cycle Therapy) when trying to restore natural testosterone levels.

Due to the very strong inhibitor, it is important to be very careful with your doses. Too low estrogen levels can cause a variety of problems, including stress on tendons and joints and reduced libido.

Dosing regimen

One 25mg tablet per day should be sufficient to effectively lower estrogen levels and prevent side effects. Exemestane reaches peak plasma concentrations within 2 hours of taking the 25 mg tablet. The active life of the drug is from 24 to 30 hours. This is important as it is much shorter than the other AI. A single oral dose of 25 mg of exemestane produces maximum suppression within 2-3 days and persists for approximately 4-5 days after ingestion.
